skī / ræpt ɪn miːt (2022-23)

for cello, piano, spoken word, and live electronics

Fellowship: ensemble vim

Program Note

skī approaches concepts of assimilation, isolation, and masking through an aural meditation in color and temporal space. Aleatoric and improvisatory gestures emanate and weave a sonic loom through synthetic reflections, juxtaposed by fragments and echoes. ræpt ɪn miːt seeks to provide incomplete answers to questions of experiential identity through pure contradiction and speculation.

Premiere: May 6th, 2024 | Franny & vim | Atlanta, GA

Duration: 19 minutes

Text from Franny Choi’s “Turing Test_Love”

in Soft Science (2019)

“lyrical, distant, eerie… [a] perplexing musical-poetic experience.”

Howard Wershil in “Concert Review: ensemble vim"
