Marcescence I (2024)
for flute, clarinet, piano, viola, and cello
Commission: Domino Ensemble
Program Note
Marcescence is a biological process in which oak trees retain their dead leaves throughout the winter. Scientists remain skeptical as to the evolutionary reason, but many believe it’s to prevent leaf buds from drying before spring. Marcescence I depicts beauty from the unconventional - to wither but not fall.
Premiere: May 18th, 2024 | Domino | Knoxville, TN
