Program Notes

Working in between heartbeats – Willard Wigan uses acupuncture needles, eyelashes, and laboratory microscopes to create micro sculptures, some as little as 0.0002 inches. Citing childhood trauma as an undiagnosed autistic and dyslexic, Wigan aims to show “the significance of nothing” through his work. in the eye of a needle centers imperceptible acoustic phenomena as the basis of sonically embodied disability. Each movement musically fixates on a specific aspect of Wigan’s art and is juxtaposed with testimonies from Ouro, Wigan, and the autistic community. The interweaving of these elements unveils a beautifully vulnerable, yet visceral sonic loom.
