Current Projects

and other musings

  • Composing "Marcescence II" (flute, Bb clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, & cello) for the Catchfire Collective

  • Setting Pastor Brent McDougal's closing benediction to music for the First Baptist Knoxville choir and piano. Droki's wife is composing the piano part with them.

  • New 16' commission for orchestra (TBA)

  • Currently developing the fifth volume of "Recent Trends in Composition Opportunities" as a resource for the American Composers Forum. Also developing three supplementary documents discussing inequitable gatekeeping via profiling, long-term sustainability, instrumentation/genre metagames, and most importantly: a universal design of competition equity. Stay tuned for more!

  • Modern saturation plugins primarily focus on diode (even), triode (odd), and pentode (both) harmonic patterns, are often applied on a linear slope, and are almost exclusively based on multiples of a perceived fundamental. To assist composers in their audio editing and to widen the applications of saturation, I'm building a VST3/AU saturation plugin in Max MSP's RNBO that uses the average harmonic magnitude of specific acoustic instruments as discrete models for saturation applications. I plan to create models for all woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, and vocals. The plugin will also come with options for harmonic-specific soft-clipping, customizable drive settings, and a vector plane crossing the three common harmonic settings, discrete instrument models, and equal/just temperament systems.

Collaboration Wishlist

  • Frederic Rzewski's "The People United Will Never Be Defeated" but piano inventions on Coltrane's "Giant Steps." Title ideas: Big Steps or BEEG

  • From 2022-23, I built a DSP system in Max MSP involving amplitude modulation, filtered delays, microtonality, spectral freeze, and stereo faking that I've coined the "Ouroboros System" (OB). I'd love to write OB pieces for solos and duos!

  • A significant expansion of ‘pƐ-rI-qƆrt, but for Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, and Two Pianos/Keyboards with optional electronics.

  • Feldman got it wrong...
